Clean up a corrupted ICA Client (XenApp Online Plug-in) installation

Summary

In some cases, uninstalling the Presentation Server Client leaves some files on the computer and in the registry. This article describes how to remove those files.

Procedure

Caution! This procedure requires you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Back up the registry before you edit it.

Use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall the client. When uninstall is complete, do the following procedure:

  1. Show all hidden system files and folders on the user’s workstation hard drive. A hidden folder, called ICA Client, is listed under Application Data. Delete this folder and all its content.
    If the Program Neighborhood Agent has been present on the workstation, a folder called Citrix is listed under Application Data. It contains a subfolder called PNAgent. Delete this PNAgent folder and all its content.
  2. Make sure the Program FilesCitrixICA Client folder (the default Presentation Server Client install location) does not exist anymore.

  3. Use the Registry Editor to go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT on the workstation. Delete the following keys:

  • .ica
  • Citrix.ICAClient (all instances, as Citrix.ICAClient.2 or Citrix.ICAClient.2.1 might exist)
  • Citrix.ICAClientProp (all instances, as Citrix.ICAClientProp.2 or Citrix.ICAClientProp.2.1 might exist)
  • MIMEDatabaseContent Typeapplication/x-ica
  • Wfica
  • Under the CLSID key, delete any values that begin with 238F
  • WinFrameICA
  1. Use the Registry Editor to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrix on the workstation. Delete the following keys:
  • CitrixCAB
  • ICA Client
  • Install{94F321B9-45B0-4125-970D-DE3D98CBCA1C}
  • InstallMUI
  • InstallPNAgent
  • MUI
  • PNAgent
  • PluginPackagesXenAppSuite
  1. Use the Registry Editor to go to each user’s registry hive under SOFTWARECitrix on the workstation. Delete the following keys:
  • ICA Client
  • PrinterProperties
  • PNAgent
  • Program Neighborhood Agent

Note: Some keys are not present if the Program Neighborhood Agent was not installed.

Also, Citrix recommends that you restart the system after editing the registry.
