SEP: Upgrade SEP Manager

Read through the

  • Symantec documents for SEP upgrades for specific versions
  • Release Update Features and/or Release notes documentation
  • see if there are any issues reported in SEP forums or on internet, for the version that you are planning to upgrade to
    After getting through understanding of the upgrade version, you can follow below steps to proceed with the upgrade:

Upgrade steps:

  1. Backup location: C:Program FilesSymantecSymantec Endpoint Protection Managerdatabackup
  2. Verify that current/existing setup is up-to-date
  3. Use dbvalidator.bat
  4. Verify that two sites are replicated latest with no errors
  5. See if there are any Liveupdate errors C:Program FilesSymantecLiveUpdate
  6. Check C:Program FilesSymantecSymantec Endpoint Protection Managertomcatlogs if there are any errors
  7. Verify client-server communication by modifying few policies and checking policy version numbers on clients
  8. · Ensure you hold latest and working copy of DB backups

 

Upgrade Procedure:

  1. Delete Replication at both the sites
  2. Exit SEP consoles
  3. Stop SEPM service
  4. Ensure sufficient disk space is avail,
  5. Disable admin install restrictions/policies like below: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftwindowsInstaller
  6. Check install log with name SEP_INST.LOG in %temp% folder if install takes very long time. Log example: C:Documents and Settingsgunnalag-adminLocal SettingsTemp2SEPM_INST.LOG
