Setting up BackTrack (BT)

Install the BT using the mounted .iso or bootable disk The BT4 doesn’t ask you for username/passwd during the install, rather by default creates root user with password toor. Once BT is installed, login as  root user and reset password ‘sudo passwd root’ use startx toget into the Xterminal session. Installing Windows 7 in VMWare Workstation (v7.1.2.3)

Have Windows 7 bootable CD/DVD ready, in case of .iso have it mounted to a virtual drive. If yours is a Intel CPU based PC, then enable Virtualization Support in BIOS settings. Create new VM and boot the VM from Win7 bootable installer location A base Win7 ultimate x64-bit edition requires a minimum of 8.8 GB disk space, so allocate more space as per your requirement. Once machine build completes, install VMWare Tools as well followed by MSFT Automatic Updates install.
